Final Preparation
I have previously mentioned that the cheerleading squad at SMS has been getting ready for competition. It’s getting close, a week from Saturday. We are diligently working to get everything perfect for competition.
Last Saturday, the Blue cheerleading squad from Breathitt was in Bowling Green for the state cheerleading competition, so we got to go to their gym and use their mats to practice on. That’s a good practice time for us, because the floor at the competition is on a matted floor, too. It is also much safer to practice the tumbling and stunts we do on this surface. We have been working on the routine for about a month, but we just recently learned it all the way through, so it was good to practice on the mats.
The competition we have entered is called The Bluegrass Classic, which is sponsored by Cheer Elite. It is also a charity event for Central KY Blood Center. It will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Henry Clay High School in Lexington. There are pee-wee squads all the way up to high school and all-star squads competing. Last year, over 50 squads participated.
We have recently been practicing three hours a practice. It’s really hard and tiring, but we know it will all be worth it. We all practice at home on our own too. You always get so nervous in front of the crowd at competitions; you have to be able to do the routine without thinking about it. We are getting there.
I hope we make it to competition and do well. I have faith in our squad, though. I know we can do it.
