BCRTAD discusses important 2008 issues
The Breathitt County Retired Teachers Association (BCRTA) met January 25, 2008 at the Old Country Inn. Presided Janet Hounshell presided.
Key issues discussed included: membership, legislative, health and insurance. Membership goals for the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association (KRTA) is 28,000 members in 2008. KRTA dues are $15.00 annually. KRTA membership entitles a retiree to many services not available to non-members. BCRTA dues which include Upper Kentucky River Retired Teachers Association (UKRRTA) membership are $7.00 annually.
The 2008 KRTA legislative program focuses toward acquiring sufficient health insurance funding to the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System (KTRS) for retired teachers, maintaining current benefits for active and retired teachers, maintaining current pension-type retirement system for future KTRS members, and maintaining the structure of the current KTRS Board of Trustees.
Dylan Campbell, a Jackson City School fifth-grader, was named county winner of the “Grandparent Essay” sponsored by AARP in conjunction with the KRTA and BCRTA. All fifth-grade entrants are to be congratulated for their essays.
New BCRTA member Charles Riley was welcomed to the meeting. Barbara Deaton presented the caring reporting noting concerns of BCRTA members.
The KRTA Convention has been scheduled for April 17-18, 2008 in Louisville. The BCRTA Salad Luncheon will be May 16, 2008 at the Lion’s Club. The next BCRTA will be February 22, 2008 at the Old Country Inn; 10:30a.m. Bring volunteer hours.
