The next phase of the four-lane rebuilding of Kentucky 15 in Breathitt County - a section a little over two miles from south of Still House Hollow where the new road begins north of Jackson, to the intersection of the present Route 15 at Panbowl Lake Road - is on Governor Beshear’s road plan.
But because of concerns about the state’s financial showing, work on the project that’s expected to cost nearly $33 million is now been pushed back from this upcoming Fiscal Year of 2008, which begins July 1st, to the Fiscal Year of 2010.

What was the Breathitt-Wolfe Family Violence Prevention Council is no longer, thanks to a name change.
Because Wolfe County is starting their own council, the official name became the Breathitt Family Violence Prevention Council at Tuesday’s meeting inside Jackson City Hall.
The council also unveiled a new slogan during the session, which was attended by 15 persons. The saying, “Respect Your Honey. Love Doesn’t Have To Hurt” is featured on a drawing which contains two bears and a jar of honey. This drawing and slogan will also be used during a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the Breathitt County Courthouse on Thursday, March 6th at 12 Noon.

Then and now, finding teachers in Eastern Kentucky hasn’t been easy. But thanks to a program initiated by Morehead State University’s Jackson Center, many who didn’t have the opportunity to teach are now fulfilling their dreams.
And one such opportunity comes next Wednesday at 3 p.m., as MSU-Jackson holds a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program Orientation, on the bottom floor of the Life Skills Center on Main Street.

Long-known as one of the major civic events in Breathitt County, the annual Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Jackson will again greet hungry stomachs this Saturday.
And has been the case in previous years, this year’s event will have a new location. The breakfast will be held in the cafeteria of the Kentucky River Medical Center (KRMC) on Jett’s Drive, from 7 to 11 a.m.
The Clintons, who have spent their entire political career cultivating the idea among blacks that they are victimized by the white establishment, find today that blacks have virtually deserted Hillary’s campaign for President. Bill’s attempt in South Carolina to label Barack Obama as only a black candidate whose campaign would falter in states that had few blacks, was considered racist by most blacks causing millions of them to switch their allegiance to Obama.
In some countries, it is considered illegal not to vote. On Election Day, if you do not cast your ballot at all, you may get a fine in the mail for two, three, maybe even five hundred dollars. Is this too harsh of a punishment? In these free countries, should people have the choice to vote or not?
As I watched television today, one entire hour was devoted to the housing mortgage foreclosures. This is an epidemic nationwide and is the worst since the Great Depression which started in 1929. Republican Herbert Hoover was President at the time but history has not given him all the credit for those bad times. When he became President, the nation’s economy was apparently headed south and Hoover didn’t know how to handle the situation. The name Hoover has been a bad word ever since and especially with Democrats.
The elderly lady had waited anxiously for the local television station’s weather forecast. Finally, the moment arrived. She leaned in close so as not to miss a single word, as the meteorologist proclaimed with all confidence in his best television voice, “There’s a 50% chance of rain tomorrow.”
“Myths About Debt”
Back this week and we’re talking about saving money. We first mentioned the best way to start saving is to get out of debt. To do that, you have to live on less than you make. It’s no simpler, yet so much harder than that. If we can all act like adults and not over buy all the non-necessities we want for a short time, we can get bills paid off and be ready to really save. Last time, I used an illustration on how important it is to start saving money early in life. So, the quicker we get these credit cards, student loans, gas cards, HELOCs, and mortgages paid off, the better we situation we’re in.
My dad tied my shoes tightly to my feet and walked with me to where I would await my turn. Once there, my coach would give me advice concerning the appropriate way to run the track. She would advise me on what part of the track to run my fastest and when to just keep up a steady pace, for the race was long, and I couldn’t afford to lose any ground. When the time came, I took my place at the starting line, and when the signal was given, I started running as fast as I could. I tried to run as my coach had instructed, and as I neared the next to last turn of the track, I noticed at least one of the other racers giving up and quitting the race.
