Getting Ready for Competition
As the new year begins at Sebastian Middle School, many students are getting ready for several competitions. As a member of the SMS Cheerleaders and the Academic Team’s Future Problem Solvers, my teammates and I have been working hard to prepare for these events.
Jesus stood before the occupied tomb, which Lazarus had occupied for days and commanded that the stone be removed. He prayed to His Father: “And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go” (John 11:43, 44).
The Biggest Thing I’ve Ever Seen
As a general rule I think that people tend to be selfish, overly competitive, insensitive, and on the whole, out for themselves. Certainly this doesn’t describe everybody (thank goodness) and occasionally even the most heart-hearted will do something kind for someone else. But I feel like a lot of times people are only motivated to do something nice if they also benefit from it in some way. I know I’m guilty of this sometimes. It would probably be pretty depressing—if everybody else in the world wasn’t too busy doing the same thing to notice. Every once in awhile though, you get to witness something that is so selfless that you can’t help but be humbled by it.
I recently saw a sign that read: Be careful what you wish for. How many people do you know that constantly wish for wealth, a new home, to win the lottery or even lots of material things? How many people do you know that wish for health, happiness, family or even love? These days, the want for material things have overcome everything.
Robert has been experiencing some new medical issues lately and you know how mothers are when their child is threatened. I had that heavy on my heart when I walked out on the porch. There in a small tree sat a great big red Cardinal with feathers all fluffed out. I had an immediate sense of praise for the God of the universe taking time to send me a postcard of love, to remind me HE is still in control. Normally, when a door is opened and shut the birds take flight, but that Cardinal just kept sitting there singing, I shall not be moved.
“Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it’s the only thing.” Albert Schweitzer just may have known what he was talking about when he made this statement. We’ve all, at one time or another had someone who has had a great impact on our lives—whether it was a parent, grandparent, teacher, etc. someone has touched our lives in some way. Hopefully we can attest that the influence was a positive one.

It was a May Day in January, and everyone all over town was feeling good. In the bank, Preacher Johnny Herald hummed a hymn, and Mr. Sheffel whistled a lively tune. Shoppers were out in droves, resulting in long lines everywhere.
The big news from the Senior Citizen Center is that we’re excited about a trip coming up in February. We have a bus chartered to go visit THE CREATION MUSEUM that is located near Cincinnati.
This is a special 1-day tour that the center is organizing and any senior in the county can go whether or not they attend the center. As a matter of fact, a person doesn’t have to be a senior to go. Lillian Trent, now operating Jett Touring Service, says any age person can be eligible to go.
