“Walk On Water”, by James David Fugate
I tend to record nearly everything in some sort of database. Birthdates of people I seldom talk to, gas mileage, hours spent on the elliptical exerciser, what I did today, what I intend to do tomorrow, over 30,000 photographs taken through the years, anniversaries, architectural plans, checks written and just about anything and everything you can imagine or possibly not imagine. What am I going to do with all this? Sadly, probably nothing.
However, for some reason I’m compelled to save such information. My eclectic collection of facts, figures and odd bits of information doesn’t take up much room thanks to this digital age, but the same can’t be said for the time consumed in organizing it. Probably no one else will benefit by my careful recordkeeping; nonetheless, my files continue to grow larger each year.
It causes me to think of that which God has left for us… the most compre-hensive, complete, compel-ling and accurate collection one could possibly imagine. Anything of importance and all information we would ever need can be found from Genesis to Revelation. Unlike my lifeless collection, God’s Word is a living utterance —able to speak to my inquisitive mind, proficient to quiet my troubled spirit, and one which provides countless pictures of God’s deepest expression.
What am I going to do with all this? What are you going to do with it? We will both benefit immensely by God’s careful recordkeeping if we continue to explore and take to heart the greatest database ever assembled. Read your Bible.
