The final margain of victory between the two candidates for Family Court Judge had been eleven votes before last Thursday’s recanvass. After the votes were totaled up again, the margain went down to an even-thinner four votes between the winner and loser.
But the winner remains the same, as Campton attorney and former Circuit Court Judge Larry Miller defeated Jackson attorney and City Councilmember Patrick O’Neill in that race, which involved Breathitt, Wolfe and Powell Counties - the 39th Judicial District, Division 2.

Like many stores on the eve of the Holidays - the big retail season for them - the Sears store in Jackson is getting ready for customers. Lots of them.
The delivery trucks have been beating a path to the side door, and last-minute details have been checked and double checked.
Inside J. T. Bell’s small office, there’s a box with a bright red suit inside. Bell takes out the hat and within seconds, a familiar figure comes alive. The costume contains no fake beard, because Bell supplies that with his own white whiskers.
Special to the Voice During the course of one day in court earlier this month, a Breathitt County woman pleaded guilty to a drug offense, while a former Breathitt County man was sentenced on drug-related offenses.
That’s according to Breathitt Commonwealth’s Attorney Darrell Herald, who said the actions took place on Friday, November 9th in Breathitt Circuit Court.
Chris Bunn in stable condition
Chris Bunn of Jackson has been upgraded from critical to stable condition at the UK Hospital in Lexington. He was seriously injured when his motorcycle collided with a truck last Sunday on Route 205 north of Vancleve. “He’s out of the ICU and into a private room,” said his father, Rev. John Bunn on Monday. “Chris is on a feeding tube, he has a lot of pain, but he’s aware of his surroundings.” Bunn told the Voice they hope Chris will be sent to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital later this week. He also expressed gratitude to the people who’ve kept the family in their thoughts and prayers. “Chris has a long way to go. But prayer helps. We are overwhelmed by the prayers and the friendship of the community.”

The old building above Route 30 at Shoulderblade once housed a church. From the road, it looks the same on the outside as it once did.
Located next to the Canoe Volunteer Fire Department, a stream of cars, vans and trucks begin to trickle in and stop, with people walking up the hill to the old building where an American flag greets them before they go in the door.
Dear Editor,
It is with my heartfelt thanks that I want to say how grateful I am for everyone who worked so hard to make the Breathitt County Veterans Appreciation Week a tremendous success. A special thank you is due to Mayor Miller and all the employees of the City of Jackson, Chief Roger Friley and the Jackson Fire Department, Breathitt County Judge-Executive Jason Richardson and his staff,
In the recent election the voters of Breathitt County elected to return to the four magistrate county fiscal court system.
Local government in Kentucky and around the nation is modeled after the old British system. This system provided for a fiscal court to be composed of a county judge later labeled as a county executive and a number of magistrates. They would conduct the fiscal affairs of the county as well as minor judicial matters. Other officials included a sheriff, constables, surveyor and jailer.

I wrote recently concerning the power of two words: THANK YOU! Further, this is an attitude that makes life better for ourselves, our family and those with whom we come in contact. And, this grateful attitude needs to prevail, not just at Thanksgiving, but throughout the year. Finally, this is not just a matter of opinion but one that has a scientific basis.
I always look forward to read-ing the Voice on Thursday evening. I read the right column of page two first to see how bad a beating that I have taken from Bobby. I must say that I am getting tired of being beaten with the same old clubs labeled: liberal abortion support, liberal tax increases, liberal deficit spending, liberal anti-gun control and so on. I wish that he would get some new ones. The clubs are now all in splinters.
