A Breathitt Countian has died Tuesday evening, after he fell off the back of the truck he was riding in.
18-year-old Josua L. Harmon of River Caney was killed while helping to move a stove near his home in the River Caney community around 7:30 p.m.
Reports indicate that Harmon was sitting on the tailgate of the truck, as he and others were moving the stove from one house to another on a gravel road.

Telling supporters “the only poll that counts is on November 6th”, Steve Beshear rode into Jackson with running mate Dr. Daniel Mongiardo last Thursday night.
The Democratic candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor got a rousing welcome from the crowd of around 80 that jammed the Life Skills Center shortly after 8:30 p.m. The event was also a fund-raiser for the candidates, and when it was over, a total of over $26,000 was raised in Breathitt County.

]The last thirty days have been a busy one in Breathitt County Circuit Court. During mid-August to mid-September, a total of 17 persons were involved in cases that either saw the defendants plead guilty, or be sentenced for drug activity. Of that total, ten made guilty pleas, while seven persons were sentenced.

Following last Thursday’s special meeting, the Breathitt County School Board moved their regular monthly meeting up a week. And as the case in previous years during the summer and fall months, they took their meeting on the road - this time to Rousseau Elementary School.

Before Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Breathitt County School Board, they had a special meeting last Thursday night. And thanks to that meeting, the Property Tax rate will remain the same for residents affected.

The Breathitt-Wolfe Family Violence Prevention Council and other organizations in the county will benefit from a new grant awarded to Kentucky River Community Community Care (KRCC) recently.
Denise Hoffman, KRCC’s Director of Outreach Services and a Prevention Council member, made the announcement at Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Council at Jackson City Hall.

While students, families, faculty and staff at Kentucky Mountain Bible College were having dinner last Thursday, a gentleman rushed into the dining room at Brengle Hall, shouting “The British are coming!, The British are coming!”
Steve Beshear is a liberal Lexington lawyer who has a strong track record of supporting issues that are incompatible with the average Kentuckian.
When he was the Attorney General for Kentucky, he advised schools and public officials that they shouldn’t display the “Ten Commandments” on schoolhouse walls, nor display them on any public building or courthouse lawn.
