Throughout this week, the scenes painted from the awful events in the Blue Ridge of Virginia leave a deep scar on the American soul. As we write, 33 persons, including the gunman, have died as a result of the senseless shootings on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg.
Now a school and community grieve. Students, parents and friends are beginning the long healing process. And once more, we as a nation ask the one-word question.

Heavy rains brought some minor flooding to parts of Breathitt County last weekend. And while the official amount of rain recorded at the National Weather Service Office was pretty good at 1.66″, it was nothing compared to the three-and-a-half-inch amounts that Floyd and Pike Counties received to our east.

The wind picked up a little more at Douthitt Park Tuesday afternoon as the band picked another tune. The sweet sounds of a fiddle, some guitars, a banjo and a dobro pierced the air, while festive folks tapped their toes and hummed to the song - in this case, the “Martha White Flour Song”, a tune that “self-rose” to perfection by Flatt and Scruggs.

Both Robert Stewart and Ron Combs enjoyed their road trip to Frankfort on Monday. And with good reason. Hoping to cash in on the success of last year’s day at the park, this year’s festivities is slated to take place on Saturday, May 19th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Douthitt Park in Jackson.
In order to allow contractors to set beams on the new bridge that will carry four-lane KY 15 across KY 1812 and Frozen Creek, KY 1812 in Breathitt County will be closed beneath that span beginning Monday, April 16.
It’s a windy Monday morning on Morris Fork and Longs Creek but the sun is shinning bright and would be quite warm if the wind settles. The wind settling jus brought to my mind memories of my grandparents, my dad and a lot of folks who would say, “if the wind “lays” we can sow seed today” or “the wind has “laid”, now we can cut that tree down.” Did you ever wonder just how the “wind lays” and where it “lays down”? Just a little thought about the way we sometimes say things. I have used the expression to myself.
Branching off what I discussed last week regarding the website ShopFreePay.com, there is also a website for those seeking iPods. Let me introduce iPodSweepstakes.com.
Well my friends, as usual another week has passed us by. It is already done and gone. I sincerely hope that you all are doing good. There has been a lot of deaths again this week; some were friends and some were related to friends. They all need prayer, parting with a loved one is always hard.
