Plants Stolen From True Value
Two familiar creatures to the garden center at Jackson True Value Hardware have left their habitat, thanks to a thief or thieves over the weekend.
A five-foot Evergreen bear was stolen from the garden center sometime Friday night, then a five-foot Evergreen elephant was reported missing the next night. The person or persons responsible for the crime also took a lot of roses from the center, which is located outside the store in the North Jackson Plaza.
“The two plants, the elephant and the bear, were sitting in their pots and we first got word that the bear was stolen on Saturday, when an employee noticed it was missing,” said store co-owner Martin Douthitt. “On Sunday, we noticed that the elephant and the roses were gone from their places. Both plants are Coniferous Evergreens, which are needle-like. We have notified the police department about the stolen plants.”
In fact, one witness who lives nearby at the Kings Ridge Apartments saw a person attempting to steal some more on Sunday night. “When he shook that gate, I knew he wanted to steal something,” said James Neff, who also said Jackson Police and Kentucky State Police got a look at the perpetrator. “After that, I saw him go in the woods right behind my apartment.” Neff said police described the alleged thief as “a boy with blond hair, in his late 20’s or early 30’s.”
If you know the whereabouts of the person or persons responsible for the crime, or know the whereabouts of those missing plants, contact the Jackson Police Department at 666-2424, or Jackson True Value Hardware.
