Friday, July 21st, 2006Recent years have seen a surge in the use of daylilies in the landscape. And rightly so, as these wonderful plants offer us so much. They provide great color, are easy to grow most anywhere and many of the new varieties give us repeat blooms through the summer. The original repeat bloomer, “Stella de Oro” (Star of Gold) has bright golden blooms, while the “Happy Returns” is a buttery yellow. “Little Business” and “Pardon Me” are repeat bloomers in shades of red.

Thursday, July 13th, 2006Last Saturday, July 8, the 4-H State Communications Day was held at the University of Kentucky. Those participating in the event had been named champions in Area Talk Meets and 4-H Demonstrations this past year. Thre were young people from all across Kentucky.

Thursday, July 13th, 2006“This will be beneficial to a lot of people.” Shannon Moore, the superintendent of the Breathitt County Water District stated proudly as a group of engineers and supervisors met along with Mayor Mike Miller on Monday, July 10th at the intersection of Town Hill and Highway 30 to complete the third water project and turn it on.
Thursday, July 13th, 2006At Wednesday’s In-Service session at Breathitt High School, custodians, maintenance workers, cooks and school principals learned that preventive maintenance is ongoing, and starts with day-to-day maintenance. That’s followed by good equipment care, as well as safety and health measures to make their jobs more efficient for everyone.

Thursday, July 13th, 2006As the heat of July begins to pick up, so are the candidates beginning to file for races in the city of Jackson. A newcomer to the political scene has filed for City Council, while two well-known faces are running for seats on the Jackson Independent School Board.
Thursday, July 13th, 2006“It’s a great day to get a new car,” Jackson Mayor Mike Miller said with a big smile last Thursday. Thanks to Rural Development Funds from the U. S. Department of Agriculture, the city was handed over the keys to a new vehicle for use by the Jackson Police Department. With federal, state and local officials on hand at the ceremony at City Hall, Miller was proud of the accomplishment between Jackson and the U.S.D.A. “It’s the first time we’ve gotten any piece of equipment this way.”
