April, 2006
I came home from Lexington on Saturday to the sound of power equipment. David Hubbard was on his mower. James was on the side of the bank with his weed eater. Mike Chaney, who is my nearest neighbor, went through a weed eater, riding mower and edger. One time he came roaring down the hill on the riding mower wearing an allergy mask. I thought I was being robbed by the Lone Ranger.
Thursday, April 27th, 2006When I think back to my early childhood, I think of the many experiences which meant nothing then but are invaluable now. I think of the people who inhabited land along the main streams and out the head of the little creeks.
Thursday, April 20th, 2006It was not Friday morning, it was Saturday morning and it was early. Friday morning, a work morning, featured a 6:30 a.m. shower. I went back to sleep to the rhythm of the rain on the metal roof. I woke again a 7:30 and could have easily returned to “sleepy town.” But, alas, duty called and I got up.
Thursday, April 20th, 2006We are now living in a corporate society where corporate corruption has reached a height unimaginable in days gone by. In the last few years it has reached its peak and boiled over. CEO’s both big and small have been profiteering at the expense of the little person for many years.
Thursday, April 13th, 2006The old barn will soon come down to be replaced with a new one…he has served us well. But time has taken its toll, and if he’s not taken down, piece by piece, he will soon come down in a heap. The old friend’s dignity demands that not happen.
Thursday, April 13th, 2006“Breakfast to go” goes something like this.
Fix the coffee. One pack of Sweet & Low is used for sweetener, leaving two halves of a paper package. The plastic container holding the creamer is emptied into the coffee, leaving the container and the paper top. The plastic stirrer is removed from the paper wrapper, both to be tossed after the coffee is stirred. Even if I’m eating in, I still put a plastic top on the Styrofoam cup. Both will be thrown away when the coffee is gone.
Thursday, April 6th, 2006So Rajon Rondo’s going pro. He says he simply needs to work on his outside shot. Speaking of outside shots…
